Match Report
Another IFA game for ASB could only mean one thing - another road
trip. The fact we lost at home to West Ham still hasn't encouraged
other teams to make it over our way...yet. So today's game meant a
trip round the North Circular out Romford way where the Daggers were
our hosts for their first ever IFA League match.

With Inga winging his away to the other side of the world, Zack
stepped in to the gaffer's sheepskin. Availabilities for today
weren't ideal with a number of regulars unavailable for one reason or
another, and with Nick dropping out this morning it looked like we
would have a bare eleven. But Irish Dave had brought his mate Aaron
with so we lined up as follows:

Rob

Weeman
Dave
Woody
Frange

Zack
Kev
Brian
TJ

Sam
Aaron

Sub: James

There was a swirling wind and the pitch was incredibly dry and bobbly
for this time of year. You needed to try and take your time on the
ball today and Dagenham were doing their best to close us down as
quickly as possible which meant the ball was spending more time in
the air than we would have liked. Some early efforts on goal proved
that their keeper knew what he was doing and we weren't going to get
any easy goals. About half way through one of their players limped
off after a collision with TJ and as they had no subs they played
with ten men for the rest of the game. For the ASB defence the
biggest threat was dealing with their high balls, and as there were
no linos it wasn't easy playing offside; but for the most part they
didn't threaten that much going forward and Rob did well to come off
his line and claim the balls coming through.

To be honest the first half was pretty uneventful and we came in at
half time knowing that we could do much better. TJ came off with
James taking his place on the left wing. The wind had moved in our
favour and Dagenham now found themselves playing into it. We started
to get some more confidence on the ball with some more fluent passing
and we started creating some chances, but our finishing wasn't great
and sometimes we were taking the wrong options. Sam and Aaron pulled
a couple of shots wide, and both Kev and Brian made runs through the
middle but the ball wouldn't break for them when well placed in front
of goal.

Aaron then took centre stage - one speculative cross got caught by
the wind, it looked to be heading in but the keeper made an excellent
one-handed save after he slipped coming for the ball. Not long after
Aaron was then fouled in the box to win a penalty, he placed the ball
on the spot but put his kick just wide of the right-hand post. It
looked like a goal was never going to come, but not long after Aaron
was put through again and he finished well from a tight angle.

We now felt more in control and there was another great chance to
double our lead and kill the game off that went begging. James then
made a good run inside from the left and his shot just drifted wide.
So it was typical that they then equalised against the run of play;
their lone striker beat Woody to get a cross in which Rob got a hand
to, but the ball then hit Weeman's arm and the ref decided to point
to the spot. Their man sent Rob the other way and they'd equalised
with their first shot on target.

With only ten minutes left there was still time to get a winner but
we just couldn't get into the right positions. With their very last
attack of the game they got a shot away which looked to be dipping in
but thankfully hit the bar - to lose the game at the point would have
been very hard on us.

In the end it was a somewhat frustrating morning, but given it was
the umpteenth different starting XI of the season we did pretty well
considering. Let's look to up the commitment levels for the remaining
games this season and get back to winning ways at Stevenage next week.
