Match Report
Sat 13th Jan 2007

ASB 8 Hampton & Richmond 1

Venue: Old Deer Park

After appearing to be down to the bare 11 at the eleventh hour, Inga and Keir proved worthy successors to ASB managers of yore by recruiting 3 players of note overnight and regenerating the erstwhile Franklin.

So our squad of 15 assembled against our local rivals for the 1st time and although I could use their local proximity to ODP as an excuse why they arrived before us, the mind casts back to when sides like Stockport and countless others from oop north have arrived before us at our home patch in the past so will move swiftly on!

Rumours of Juzzas retirement proved false as he ambled up to ref the game. Mind you, the baggy shorts he sported suggested his mind was wistfully yearning for the day he does retire to a sunkissed palm-fringed beach to quaff Guinness with a cocktail umbrella ranting at beach vendors and ice cream salesmen!!

The week's gales and rainstorms had abated for our game and we assembled thus!!

Rob
Weeman
Woody
Daniel
Peewee

Tizz
Matt
Riz
Slouch

Sharkey
Larry

We started the way we were to go on with slick passing and their keeper showed his worth with some fine saves including a penalty save from Riz. When would we break the deadlock was the question?

Soon was the answer when tizzy finished a fine move.  Matt's speculative shot from the edge of the area soon followed going in off the raised hands of a defender. Juzza later admitted he'd have blown for another penalty had this not gone in. More goals followed from Larry and then slouch after a great run and lay-back from the Sharkmeister. 4-0 and we were cooking! At the end of the half weeman felled a midfielder which saw the resultant free-kick become their only goal of the game. However, 4-1 at half time and we were buoyant. Weeman made way for Pete, Tizz for Babyface, Franklin for Slouch who replaced Matt in the middle and Mungo for Larry.

This was a game that we really didn't ever let up and we awarded another penalty which stand-in captain Peewee took only for a carbon copy result! however, the next melee in the box saw a frustrated, determined Peewee finish with a low near post volley, ironically at the same post he'd just missed his penalty! Riz presented Mungo with some excellent through balls and after a fine effort cruelly ruled out for offside,
Mungo's determination was rewarded with a good finish for 6-1. Woody then linked with franklin and Slouch on the left to cross for Babyface who collected well and beat the
fine keeper from 14 yards. Larry who had come back on for Sharkey added our 8th and final goal for 8-1. Other assists in the game came from Babyface,Tizzy, Larry and Mungo

For me the positives were how well the newbies slotted in, the number of different scorers and assist makers(a sure sign of a cohesive side) and the way we didn't seem to have a quiet period as we sometimes do. We really went for the jugular in this game and must carry this on into the big games and tournies later in the season!!

A big shout to the H&R lads who were a good bunch who will get better as they are a young side with the best keeper we have faced this season, he is the main sides
reserve keeper!

My MOM is Slouch for playing well on the left wing in the 1st half and arguably giving an even better performance in the 2nd half in the unaccustomed central midfield role
