| Match Report |
The first away trip of the season saw ASB travel to Leicester to play the Internet Foxes who had been picking up some good results in there last few games. ASB on the Friday had what looked to be a squad of 14 with a big chance of getting the win, but as ever with our travels the numbers had dwindled down to 12 which may have contributed to us not getting the result we deserved in honesty although we were still confident that we could come out of this game with the three points. When everyone had arrived at the ground and the groundskeeper had eventually turned up with the keys ASB made their way in to the changing rooms to get ready for the game. After a trek down to the pitch and lined like this: Naz Frang Orv Tina Task Immy Nick Riz Slouch Rocky Billy Sub: Camilla The first half kicked off and it was a fairly even start to the game both sides were playing well, ASB were using the wings well with Slouch and Immy giving the Leicester full backs all sorts of trouble and the Foxes more direct route one approach was occasionally working for them with their pacy strikers and midfield puhing up to support the attack. It was the Foxes who took the lead after about 20 minutes of the first half gone an inswinging corner was met by a firm header from a Leicester player which beat Naz in goal, Immy and Frange combined to keep it out and Nick cleared but the ball was played back into the box and was blasted in although the ref had given the header already as a goal as it crossed the line before Frange managed to clear. So 1-0 down and ASB had to show their fighting spirit to get back into the game and managed to do it by getting two goals before the half time whistle was blown. ASB won a corner on the left hand side which was swung in by Nick but was glanced clear by a Leicester head but only for another corner on the opposite side which Task crossed in, again Leicester got to it first but it only got as far as Immy who laid it back to Task who powered it back in after a bit of pinball in the 6 yard box Billy managed to get the ball in the net. 1-1 and it was game on all over again. Soon ASB would get in front through Immy who's recent switch to right wing has brought about some good form with 3 goals in the last game and it was the dazzling yellow boots that worked their magic again. The ball was worked from the back into midfield and spread wide to Immy who was holding the touchline and went off on one of his infamous runs which started close to the halfway line. Weaving his way through the challenges and making it to the edge of the box and unleashed a left foot shot which ended up where a run like that deserved in the bottom right corner. Half time soon followed and without our usual team talk from our gaffer who was back in London preparing himself for the big party he has been going on about for weeks, Riz and Task informed us of a few things that have been working well and what we needed to do better and so we made our way back on to the pitch ready for the second half. ASB carried on where they had left off putting pressure on the Leicester back line and midfield but just couldn't find the goal that would have killed the Foxes off and where ASB could push on from but it just would not come no matter how much we tried. After 15 minutes of the half had gone Frange was subbed for Camilla and Nick was moved to right back. The attacks kept flowing and breaking upon a determined Foxes defence and a keeper in fine form. The Foxes managed to snatch their second after a misplaced pass in the midfield, Nick was caught out of position and Orv came across to cover but couldn't stop the Leicester striker getting into the box and placing the ball under Naz as he came out to try and smother the shot. The Foxes had hauled themselves back into contention but ASB continued to push for the winner and our wide players were taking a battering from the Leicester defence. Immy had to have a quick break to walk off a knock he received and in the last few minutes Slouch had to come off after hurdling a challenge and getting cramp so Frange came back on at right back and Nick moved into left midfield. In the dying moments ASB won a corner on the left hand side and Nick swung it in but nothing came of it as the Leicester defence managed to get it out again. The final whistle followed shortly and the game finished 2-2 much to our disappointment all of our attacking efforts in the second half just couldn't find the killer finish that would beat the keeper who to his credit pulled off some wonderful saves during the game.
