Match Report

After a total football display last week against Welling, ASB were keen to continue their recent good form with another dominating display against Brentford.

ASB had kick off and from the start were on the attack looking to get an early goal to push on from and in the 7th minute that goal came. After mounting ASB pressure Brentford conceded a corner on the left handside which Eddie swung in and Jools rose above the crowd to head in his first of the match.

After the first goal ASB were quite happy to consolidate their position with good possession football and had Brentford chasing shadows for most of the first half. All of the midfield were creating openings with Gav and Jools always looking to add to the lead.

At the other end of the pitch Slouch was quick off his line to make a smart save from the Brentford striker who had broken through somehow and the ball flew out for a throw near the halfway line.

The back four were rock solid throughout the game which allowed the midfield to push up and support the strikers and in the 21st minute Riz added the second goal of the game. Eddie knocked the ball down the line for Gav who passed the ball into Jools' feet, a little lay off to Riz who fired the ball into the goal from the edge of the box.

Another 5 minutes of passing football and set up a couple of chances a through ball in between the Brentford right back and centre back put Jools in but he couldn't finish it off and fired over. Gav had a similar chance but the keeper blocked it and a Brentford defender was first to the loose ball and cleared the danger.

In the 30th minute Brentford conceded another corner on the right handside this time and Peewee crossed the ball to the back post where a waiting Eddie lifted the ball back across goal for a leaping Donny to head into the Brentford goal. Brentford staged a mini revival and managed to get a goal soon after the Donny 3rd when Eddie got dispossessed in the centre circle and a ball over the top saw the Brentford striker sprint in and lift the ball over a stranded Slouch who had come off his line to try and make
a save.

ASB weren't going to let Brentford back into this game and restored their 3 goal advantage on the 40th minute when Jools scored his 2nd of the game care of a Riz assist can't really remember how this goal was scored but considering their were 10 goals I think I'm allowed to forget 1.

Halftime came 5 minutes later and ASB were in control the only thing that could stop us from finishing this game off was complacency which was the message at halftime from the gaffers. One change was made at halftime with Tim being replaced by Matt straight swap at centre mid.

Into the second half we went looking to improve the goals for column of the table and quickly after the restart Nick added the 5th of the game for ASB. Some neat play on the edge of the Brentford box found Matt in some shooting space but his shot ricocheted off a Bees player into Nicks path who took one touch and slid the ball in.

Jools was replaced at this point by JJ staright swap upfront. ASB were firmly in control of this game and were knocking the ball around nicely, taking their time before launching another attack. On the hour mark Matt again managed to wriggle his way free from his Brentford marker gathered a pass and fired a shot across goal and
left it nestling in the bottom right corner of the goal, 3 goals in 4 games for Crouchy now.

Nick came off at this point to be replaced by Tim and Peewee took over from Slouch in goal who hadn't had to do a lot in goal today, Ian moved to right back, Slouch slotted in a left back for now and Tim took over right mid duties. Two minutes after the switch Gav managed to get himself onto the score sheet. Eddie won the ball on the right side and put a cross in Gav didn't even have to job and nodded the ball into the net.

Within 10 minutes it appeared the tactical change had worked and Tim got himself amongst the goals with a well taken effort. Donny strode forward from centre half and interchanged passes with Tim on the right before bursting into the box where Donny was up ended by the Bees centre back but Tim picked up the ball and blasted it into the top right corner from a tight angle.

Another substitution was made now with Naz replacing Gary. Riz dropped into centre half, Naz went to left back, Slouch moved upto left midfield and Eddie went to centre mid. Naz made an immediate impact, winning a commanding header he continued his run up the left wing and beat 2 players before being hacked down in the box blatant penalty. Matt had to come off at this point as he had pulled his hamdtring so Nick went on at right mid and Tim took over in centre mid with Eddie. Weeman was appointed penatly taker for this one, he placed the ball down waited for the whistle and took the shot aiming for the bottom left corner but the keeper managed to get down to it and gathered it in.

Not to worry though another goal wasn't far away this time it wasn't ASB who scored it was a Brentford player. A ball was lofted into the box Nick brought it down and had a shot but it was going wide until it hit the Bees knee and went in past the helpless keeper. This was not the end of the goal spree Jools was to have the last say in the game with his hat trick goal right before the whistle.

I think it was Eddie, might have been Tim we don't really know who played a ball over the top of the centre back who was marking Jools but he misjudged it and Jools was clean through all he could of done was hack him down but no Jools cool as you like lifted the ball over the advancing keeper into and empty net. Almost as the ball went in the final whistle went and ASB had run out 10-1 victors. It could of been more, Eddie twice hit the woodwork, Gav missed a golden opportunity when Eddie hit the post it came back out to him but Gav could only put it over the bar. JJ had a couple of good chances and was a constant thorn in Brentford's side when he came on.

But I think we'll settle for 10-1 don't you chaps?
