| Match Report |
On a gloriously sunny day ASB made the trip across London for a match with an as yet unknown quantity in the shape of Bromley. A rather depleted squad compared to recent weeks but still one that could get a result. For the first half ASB lined up like this: GK: Naz RB: Ian CB: Peewee CB: Riz LB: Tina RM: Nick- Nick CM: Donny CM: Tim LM: JJ ST: Sharkey ST: Jools SUB: Zach SUB: Immy SUB: John
ASB kicked off the first half and it didn't take long for us to get on the score sheet. A corner was won on the left handside and in Eddie's absence Peewee strolled forward from centre back to deliver a sweetly struck inswinging corner straight towards the Bromley keeper where Nick was standing but before he could direct the ball in a Bromley defender did it for him. So ASB where ahead and could of increased their lead shortly after the goal when Tina took a throw on the left to who Nick lifted the ball over the Bromley back four to Donny who couldn't direct his volley into the goal. Riz was pushing up from centre back and practically shooting at will as the Bromley defenders couldn't stop him. JJ was a threat on the left skinning the defender at will and wriggling his way into the box and releasing a shot or laying the ball into the path of a team mate. Donny and Tim were solid in centre midfield and the back four didn't have much to do but clear up the Bromley long balls and starting the attacks.
Somehow ASB managed to go into the break only 1-0 up and the message from comrade Keir was just to be patient and the goals would come. Two change were made Ian went off and Zach came on, his first appearance for over a year in the beloved Rangers hoops and Sharkey had to go off after taking a nasty looking knock to the head and Immy came on to replace him.
So the second half kicked off and ASB picked up where they left off with attacking pressure using the wings well with both full backs overlapping and adding bodies to the attacks. With 7 minutes of the second half gone ASB extended their lead when Jools received the ball on the edge of the box and volleyed the ball up and over the goalkeeper but before the ball could cross the line Donny stole in and headed the ball in just to make sure. So 2-0 ASB but that scoreline didn't last long, 2 minutes later Tina received a pass from Riz inside his own half and carried the ball into the opponents half and just kept going before unleashing a 30 yard screamer into the bottom left corner past the despairing dive of the keeper.
The goals where coming thick and fast and pretty much straight from the kick off ASB stole the ball back and worked it out to the left to JJ who somehow through the crowd of Bromley defenders twisted and turned into enough space to let off a shot which beat the keeper to put ASB 4-0. At this point there was a shift about with personnel John came on for Tim, John went to left back with Tina moving to centre back and Riz moved up into his more familiar central midfield role.
4-0 just wasn't enough for ASB and they went straight back on the attack pushing for the fifth goal which duly came along 2 minutes since the last one, when an ASB attack broke down the Bromley defender started to break away but before he could get away Nick won the ball back from him with a sliding challenge and diverted the ball into Zachs path who whipped the ball into Donnys path who somehow turned the ball home. ASB 5-0 up with half an hour remaining there was a sixth goal I am reliably informed but the details of how or who scored are a mystery.
So 6-0 and all that was left to do was play out the remaining half an hour. The game finished and ASB had again secured three points and another clean sheet to go along with our other 6, which in turn goes towards us having the best defence in the league based on goals conceded and with an average age of about 21/22 is no mean feat. Roll on Watford on the 26th. |
