GK : Rob RB : Orville LB : Slouch CB : Tina & Peewee RM : Malik LM : Kier CM : Riz & Task S : Jamie & Mungo Subs : Immy & Jordan 1st Half Forest started the game quite brightly passing the ball well from defence through the midfield to their attackers so it was no surprise when the first good chance of the game was created by the home side. A Forest attacker managed to get in behind us down their right hand channel and once inside our penalty area took an early shot low to the far post, however Slouch got down well and made a very good save low to his right, luckily the impressive ASB defence were their first to clear the ball to safety. This was something of a wake up call and certainly kicked ASB into action. Riz and Paul M took control of the centre of the park and started to get our passing game going getting the ball into wide areas. Malik's pace on the right was causing the Forest full back plenty of problems and it seemed only a matter of time before ASB opened the scoring. A good piece of play brought the best chance of the half with Riz (I think!!!) putting Keir clean through with only the Forest keeper to beat, although he struck the ball well enough the keeper was equal to it and saved well with his legs. Keir and Jamie were holding the ball up well making it difficult for Forest to clear their lines. ASB kept the pressure up with a string of well taken corners but unfortunately no one could find the finishing touch. From another good move down the right a ball was put into the box Riz had run from deep to try and get on the end of it but just couldn't quite get there, Mungo had made a Ljungberg style run from the left wing to get himself into the box as the ball fell behind Riz it looked a certainty Mungo would smash the box into the onion bag but although he got his attempt on target it failed to trouble the Forest keeper. There is no doubt ASB were the better team in the 1st period without a goal to show for it! (I don't remember much else about the 1st half). 2nd Half Jordan made 3 changes at half time bringing himself and Immy on in replace of Jamie and Keir. Mungo was also replaced by Iain Fraser who slotted in at left midfield. ASB couldn't have asked for a better start to the second half forcing an early corner which was quickly taken short by (Don't remember who took it!) to Jordan who cut infield and rifled an unstoppable low drive into the near post to make it 1-0 ASB! ASB were playing some good stuff and you could sense the floodgates were going to open, especially when Jordan made it 2-0 shortly after his first with a brilliant individual effort. He juggled the ball passed a forest defender a very coolly slotted the ball into the corner of the net, Henry would have been proud of that one! After going 2-0 down Forest seemed to have absolutely no idea as to how they could get back into the game as ASB were better in every department, we were winning every header, tackle and second ball all over the pitch and when we got the ball we passed it well. We really should have taken Forest to the cleaners but instead 1 or 2 of the ASB players started to lose control and were rowing with the Ref (Who was absolutely clueless!). This stopped us from playing football and in some ways spoilt a good game. There has been some bad discipline in recent matches which needs to be stamped out as quickly as possible if we are going to be serious contenders for the title. We have some very good players and our effort as a team is fantastic so lets let our football do the talking from now on.... Malik almost made it 3-0 but was denied by a good save from the Forest keeper after being put in by Paul M. Task then bent a 25 yard free kick around the Forest wall, it looked like it was in, their keeper was well beaten but the ball flew just over the bar instead of into the top corner. All in all another good display from ASB who were well in control for long periods of the game. There were many good displays throughout the team, the back four were solid and anything that did get passed them was comfortably dealt with by Slouch in goal. The midfield was well controlled by Riz and Paul M while Jordan supplied two quality goals to ensure the 3 points would head back to London with yet another clean sheet. Man of the Match "Was Me" so leave it for someone else to mention that!!! Hef. |
